Wandering: The Streets of Chelsea

sloane square

When we left the Chelsea Flower Show we headed up to Sloane Square, and we ran straight into a wall.  A wall of flowers that is.  What a great and fun surprise as this was all new to me.  In association with the Royal Horticulture Society each year the retailers in Chelsea decorate their store fronts for Chelsea in Bloom.  The top right one above at Kate Spade was the winner this year.chelsea in bloom

Of course I loved the American flag at Rag and Bone.  Wish we could have wandered more around the window displays, but we were on a mission to sit down, relax and have something to eat.  This window says New York, but our destination was at the other end of King’s Road.  So many great shops and cafes along the way, but I only managed to take this one picture of “Gail’s”.  I love the decor of the shop, but it also captures, the “Look Right” on the street and I love how there happens to be a person with a little scooter by the door.  Also a coincidence, but ever since my cousin Gail showed us a picture of the amazing lobster roll she had in Maine I have been on a mission to find lobster that wouldn’t break the bank.

the big easy

From The Big Easy’s web site:

“Inspired by the 19th century crab shacks & Bar.B.Q of the American Gulf Coast, Paul opened the original Big Easy on the Kings Road 22 years ago. Offering a large slice of that easy-going living with live music, a friendly atmosphere and hearty portions of good ol’ home-style food we have become a much-loved local of choice for millions of Londoners and a fair few home-sick yanks.”

I was one happy Yank with one happy Brit across the table.  I got my lobster fix, plus a steak, baked potato, side salad, a wonderful frozen marguerita – the daily special all for 19.99.  Fun atmosphere and bib included at no extra charge.  Mr. H had the ribs and in the spirit of things a Budweiser.  Happy days.  Feeling slightly revived we circled around and took a different route back towards the train station.

A walk around London always inspiring at any time.  Even if we don’t go back to the Chelsea Flower Show another year I will definitely try to go back and see Chelsea in Bloom.

  1. Thank you for taking us on a wander around Chelsea. The shop windows look spectactular.

  2. Love the new site. Flower were beautiful!

  3. I love the living walls and it is the first time I have seen one of the new buses.

    • Hi Barbara, I know the living walls are great. I think it would be a challenge to keep them maintained though. The new bus design took us by surprise, didn’t get to see the front, maybe next time.
