Inspiration and Finding Marjorie

Hello and Happy Monday!  On our recent trip to Southern England and Northern France we visited many places, spaces and gardens that provided unending inspiration.  As in Gerberoy we saw many beautiful surroundings that inspired artists and writers.  We visited homes of famous authors and painters.  Below is the writing desk of Rudyard Kipling on display at his country home.  I plan to share more about these places in the next couple of weeks but today what I most want to share is a family inspiration.Writing desk of Rudyard Kipling

The garden writing studio of Virginia Woolf at Monk’s House in East Sussex, England.  I have wanted to visit Monk’s house for several years as I first heard about the Bloomsbury Group from my Aunt Marjorie.  So to me this was a little bit of my own “Finding Marjorie.”Virginia Woolf garden writing roomMarjorie’s daughter, my cousin, married a Frenchman and lives in France.  We were not able to meet up with her and her family on this trip as they are now off for America.  Her two children did not get to spend much time with their grandmother when she was alive, understandably with living in different countries.  But her influence lives on as now they are starting an adventure called “Finding Marjorie”.  Personally I find this so cool (one of Marjorie’s favourite words by the way!) and inspirational.  If you have time to watch the video Tess and Elliot made below it will explain.  (Also it will let you hear some French speaking! with translation in English.)
